  Author’s Note

The first seven books of the Forever Series are seen through the perspective of Liv. However, books eight onwards now have the perspectives of all the other characters.

Please note that the character changes are done by heading, so it is easy to follow whose perspective you are reading.

  Prologue

The Underworld, March 2014 – Lincoln

He comes to, only just. He wants to stay asleep just a bit longer. He likes where he is and whom he is with. He sees her light blonde hair, her small breasts and pink nipples. Her lips curve into a sensual smile and her green eyes are full of mischief. She leans forward to whisper dirty words to him and he groans. She clasps his rock-hard cock in her small hand and tugs on him ever so gently.

“Oh, Liv,” he whispers, and she takes her hand off him.

His eyes fly open. He is fully awake now and his cock is as stiff as he has ever felt it.

“You say her name when I am giving you a hand job?” Chrissy spits at him, and he closes his eyes again. He is really not in the mood for this.

“What are you even doing in here?” he asks her as he opens his eyes again and takes in her state of dress. She is only wearing one of his t-shirts.

“I am your Alpha,” she states. “Where else am I supposed to sleep?”

“In your own room,” he growls at her.

She slams him back to the bed and puts her face in his. “I am your Alpha now, Lincoln,” she says with a crazy look in her eyes. “We will share this bed, as we share everything else. Got it?”

He pushes her hand away. He doesn’t want this. This isn’t how it was supposed to go. He didn’t choose her, she was thrust upon him by the woman he so desperately wants and needs, and who left him all alone.

“Get out,” he says to her as he is about to climb out of bed.

“Oh, I am not going anywhere,” she says. “I have the support of this Pack behind me. You will forget about your precious Liv and you will take me as your wife.”

“Try and make me,” he snarls at her. He still hasn’t resolved anything with Liv. He was desolate when he returned from her house yesterday and he made a hasty decision, but it can be overturned if Liv agrees to come back to him. She is his true Alpha. The one he chose. Everything else is just a problem that can be solved.

“You have lost her,” Chrissy says to him with a stamp of her foot. “Why won’t you just accept it?” Her jealousy and temper are really starting to piss him off now. She drops to her knees at his feet and takes his hands, changing her attitude. “I can give you everything. I love you, Lincoln. There isn’t a single thing that I wouldn’t do for you. Anything you ask,” she says softly.

He wants to tell her that she has nothing to offer him, but deep down he knows it isn’t true. He can feel the satisfaction in his body after their mating in Wolf form. It has made him stronger and eased some of his tension. He was so weak while he was mourning for Liv and when he looks at Chrissy, he knows that for now, in order to be strong enough to win Liv back, he has to stick with this decision. He knows
that Chrissy covets this position more than anything else. She will never do anything to jeopardize that, but more than that. She will always be here for him. She is his second choice, at best, and he has to think about his Pack, but he also has to think about himself. He smiles hesitantly at her and relief crosses her face.

She once again pushes him back to the bed, but this time gently and she climbs onto his lap. She resumes her task and he closes his eyes and lets her do all the work. He brings Liv’s image to mind and he can feel his lips curl into a smile as he hangs onto the fantasy. Chrissy works him over with her hands and her tongue and he relaxes. He squeezes his eyes even more tightly closed. He can cling to his fantasy for just a little bit longer before he has to open his eyes and face his reality without the love of his life. For now.

  Chapter 1

The Underworld, March 2014 - Liv

There is a stinging sensation on my lips as I come to. I blink my eyes open rapidly and see Xane hovering over me. My mouth is coated with a vile-tasting substance and I feel like a truck has hit me.

  What the fuck?

“Xane?” I ask as he continues to pluck at my lips. “What are you doing?” I push his hand away and sit up. I discover I am on the bed in his room at the Castle.

He peers at me curiously and then I remember.

I stand up suddenly, pushing him away from me and holding my hand up. “What did she do to me?” I yell at him. “What was that stuff?”

I stick my tongue out and shudder. It tastes like shit and evil.

“Now, Xerxei,” he says carefully. “Try to remain calm.”

“Calm?” I yell again. “What did that bitch do to me?”

“She fixed you,” he says simply.

“Fixed me? Fixed me?” I am getting hysterical now and I stop and put my hands on my face and breathe in deeply. What was it she said again? Oh yeah, sacrifice my Vampire. “Sacrifice my Vampire?” I shriek at him suddenly, making him flinch.

I hold my hand up to my face and try to Vamp out. Nothing happens. No claws and when I poke my top teeth, no fangs either. I grab my long hair and see that no, in fact I am not Xerxei, but Liv, and I seem to have lost my Vampire. She’s gone. I don’t need any more confirmation other than the never-ending thirst for blood has completely disappeared.

“Xane!” I scream at him. “Why did she do this? How did she do this?”

He has his hands up as I advance on him, and so he should. He stood by and let her do this and now I am no longer a Vampire. I am a…fuck knows what I am? I have been a Vampire for over a thousand years, what the Hell am I supposed to do now? Oh, the old gods have mercy; CK is going to have an apoplexy. And what about my charges? They are going to suffer unimaginably now that their sire has been vanquished from their lives. All of my anger and fear and confusion crash together as I lift my hands up and blast Xane with such a force of Faerie power it catapults him into midair and he hangs there as I fry his circuits. The electricity is bouncing off the walls and mingles with my cries of rage. I get such a surge of raw power that I kill him. The overload fries his senses and his brain shuts down.

Only for a moment, of course.

He is the Demon Overlord, after all. Not even my incredible force of power is enough do him in. Well, I don’t think, anyway. A small part of me thinks that Xerxei stepped in and tampered it down before it finished him off for good.

I let him go and he slumps to the floor, completely extinguished, and I stand with my hands on my hips, waiting for him to revive himself.

He opens his eyes with a groan some moments later. Enough to make me start to panic that I have turned into a homicidal Faerie maniac, but not enough to make me any less mad at him.

“How could you do this?” I ask him, now with tears in my eyes. “You have destroyed me. I can never forgive you for this.”

That gets him on his feet, and he staggers towards me with his arms outstretched like a Demonic zombie.

“No, Xerxei, don’t you see? We can be together now. You and me, like it is supposed to be,” he says.

He grabs my arms and I am about to shake him off when I get sucker punched by an overwhelming sense of passion. I pull him to me and take his mouth to mine, probing his tongue until I am ready to jump his bones.

  Err, wait.

  Something doesn’t add up here.

I push him away from me, breaking his hold on me, and I wipe my mouth with my hand. My black hair falls into a curtain around my face and I growl. For some reason when he touched me, I turned into Xerxei and did what his Demon wife would do. I Shift back with as much force as I can and a stamp of my foot.

“Stay the fuck away from me,” I say to him. “You will not use Xerxei to manipulate me. This is far beyond a betrayal, Xane. I have no words for you.”

He shakes his head at me in sorrow. If this was his plan, to get rid of the Vampire and have me all to himself, it has backfired in a major way. All he has done is see to it that I never want to see him again. I Astral out, needing to get to my charges. They have suffered so much in this past year; this is going to devastate them. Cole is going to be….

I don’t get to finish my woeful thought on how gutted Cole is going to be, as I land in my library at home to CK leaning over a prone Devon, who is lying next to a prone Cade.

“What?” I squeak as I drop to my knees. I don’t need to be a Vampire to smell the blood and it is freaking me out. Devon is covered in it, as is Cade.

I rip Devon’s shirt open and there, like the last five hundred and eight years have never happened, is the pitchfork wound in his stomach, bleeding out all over my Aubusson rug.

“CK?” I shriek and rip open Cade’s shirt to find four bullet holes in his chest. “What the fuck?”

“You tell me,” he says with a shrug. “These things usually have something to do with you, my sweet.”

He leans forward to take my hand and then stops, standing as still as a statue. “What the fuck?” he growls at me now. “What have you done?”

Well, clearly, he knows I am no longer his charge. He obviously can’t sense me, and I have no Vampire connection to him whatsoever. Well, why would I? Xanthe made sure that I wouldn’t.

“Not me,” I say, shaking my head. “Long story. What is happening to my charges?” That’s the more important thing right now. “Why are they dying like this? Like I never turned them?”

I gulp. I have reverted to my non-Vampire self, but I still have enough other paranormal goings-on in me that I survived. My charges, or ex-charges as it is now, are dying from the same wounds that were inflicted on them before I turned them and saved them. They too have been reverse-turned somehow.

“Cole!” I suddenly shout and Astral upstairs to our bedroom, hoping to find him in there unharmed.

No such luck. Oh, he is there all right, but slumped on the floor as pale as a ghost, with two little puncture wounds in his neck. He is dying from blood loss because I drained him. There is only one thing I can think of and that is to get him to a hospital. They will know how to fix him. I grab his hand and jump a mile when CK lands next to me with Devon over his shoulder.

“He seems to be coming to,” he says as he plops him lightly on the bed. “The wounds are closing. Slowly.”

I stare at Devon for a moment and I can see the rise and fall of his chest as he breathes. Okay, good. I look back at Cole and see that the wounds on his neck are also closing and he seems to have regained some of his color. CK picks him up off the floor and lays him on the bed next to Devon. Then we just stare at them.

“Aefre,” CK says. “What the Hell happened to you?” He takes my hands, crushing them, and I can see the fear in his eyes.

“Xanthe,” I say with as much venom as I can. “She did this to me. I don’t know how. But why is it affecting them?” I gesture with my chin to the bed because CK won’t let go of my hands.

“I don’t understand any of this,” he says, and I can see that pains him not to know what is going on.

  I suddenly get
a jolt as my overactive brain starts to function properly now that the immediate danger seems to be out of the way. “They are surviving because of their father,” I say. “They are half Dragons twice-removed and it is saving them.”

I pull my hands out of CK’s and go over to the bed to stroke both of their faces lovingly. Then I get another jolt.

  Cade.

He was only a Hunter, special for sure, but still just a human.

“Stay here with them,” I order CK and Astral back to the library where Cade is still bleeding on the floor, looking the worse for wear. I crouch over him, putting my hands on him to try and stop the bleeding. I am about to Astral him out to the nearest Earthly hospital when Remiel appears next to me and crouches down with an interested look.

“Hm,” he says, rubbing his chin. “This is fascinating.”

“Do something,” I yell at him. “Don’t just stand there, save him.”

He looks at me with that imperious look he gets when I yell at him and, with a sigh, he touches Cade and runs his hand over him. And just like that…he heals. Man alive, he has way more powers than I first thought.

I breathe a sigh of relief and take my hands off Cade. “Thank you,” I say stiffly, standing up. There will be a price and I am damn sure I know what it will be.

Remiel stands as well and peers at me. “I don’t know what to say,” he says. “I have never seen or heard anything like this before.”

I feel like a bug under a microscope. I don’t like it at all. The fact that he knew all the way from the Dragon Realms that something had happened to me is also quite startling.

“You should go,” I say to him, knowing that CK will have another crack at him if he finds him here and I fear that won’t end well for my sire. Err, ex-sire. That is going to take some getting used to.

“Not without you,” he says softly and takes my hand.

For the second time that day, I get sucker punched and find myself kissing this creature as I struggle to get his body closer to mine. I let out a strangled moan and then I hear a wailing in my head.

It is this wailing that gets me to pull back and not the fact that CK is standing in the doorway looking like thunder. I didn’t even know he was there, godammit. He is definitely going to have to get a cowbell now that I can’t sense him anymore.

The wailing stops as I shrink back from Remiel, who is looking at me with–I gulp–love, and I turn from him, needing to stop seeing those eyes. I breathe in and before I can start to figure out what in Hell is going on, CK launches himself at Remiel and once again they are going at it, exchanging blows that would kill a man.
